The geysers and hot springs of Yellowstone were not just there. They were caused by a dormant supervolcano that lurks beneath the surface of the park. Many scientists who had studied the volcano were led to believe it was overdue for an eruption. They were right.
In the year 2020, eight years after the world was predicted to end, the volcano exploded. It was worse than anyone could have imagined, blanketing almost all the top and middle states of the USA and parts of Canada.
