It's been said Iris wasn't always lacking color. She once had all eyes on her wherever she walked and whenever she spoke. Creatures big and small would gather around just to see her fur.
When Iris was born, her body was the color of the rainbow itself. Brilliant bands of scarlet, blue, green and gold wrapped around her pelt. She was a creature of awe, dwarfing even her mother, Astrid's, beauty. Surprisingly her mother wasn't jealous, but her ego did swell quite a bit more from having such a beautiful child.
When Iris was a youngster, the world around her was dull and gray. Nothing had color, not even flowers. She saw this and wondered "Why am I so colorful, and not the things around me?"
With that thought buzzing in her mind, she happened to swish her tail over a patch of grass and all the grass, trees, and bushes in the world were suddenly green! What Iris didn't realize was that her green band of fur disappeared.
More excited than ever, Iris looked to the sky and howled. She colored it blue, and kept the storm clouds gray because they seemed too angry to deserve color. Her blue band disappeared.
By now Iris realized her own colors were disappearing, but she couldn't imagine stopping now. The world was becoming so beautiful, and it would all be because of her.
She pranced over to a dove and touched him with her nose. Her remaining colors slowly faded from her fur and onto his feathers. She asked him to fly over the lands and give every animal its color. The dove did so, but in the process he lost his own color and became white.
Iris also lost all her color, but to this day wolves thank her for giving the gift of color to the world.
